January 4, 20176 Tips for Complete Outfits
January 20, 2017Jean fever is set to continue this year…going through the hot sweats to find that perfect pair. But with lots of handy tips in print and on social media, some of the hard work has been done. When I was asked to be involved in a session with Good Housekeeping Magazine, which is out now, I jumped at the chance to find new options. I was to be the ‘full bottomed, pear shaped model’ and the team at GH called in heaps of jeans for five different body shapes.
I made the train journey to the location, jj Studio in North London. Greeted by my first boss, now Fashion Editor at Large, Angela Kennedy, I was offered plenty of coffee and croissants to start the day off, then settled down with international makeup and hair artist, Nadira Persaud and Justine Warwick who patiently painted my nails.
We discussed the fact that I had a stinking cold and was dosed up on Day Nurse with a dry and crusty nose…delightful! But after a few layers of foundation and plenty of mascara, Nadira also tonged my hair for fullness, I was sent in to the dressing room to decide on jeans. Being pear shaped I usually choose wider legs and a higher waist if possible too, balanced with a slim flitting top. They had mountains of shoes, rails of jeans and tables of accessories….it was fun to try on so many. I eventually decided on a pair by Citizens of Humanity at Fenwick, I loved them but they needed a heel for balance. The stripy rainbow sweater was a luxe cashmere from Pure (not in stock yet) and the ruffle front shirt by J Crew, cropped jacket from LK Bennett (in stock soon).
Two outfits, lots of smiling and hours later, the photographer took the final shot and called it a wrap and 5 exhausted, wannabe models were sent home. Hoards of clothes and accessories were left for the fashion team to bag up and send back to base. A huge thank you to Stylist Jo Atkinson and Helen Johnson for an amazingly organised day.
Over 20 years ago, my first official job after studying fashion design was with Good Housekeeping magazine I have great memories of working behind the scene on photoshoots just like this one. It’s always odd seeing images of yourself (I’m not sure I look like me), but the experience has left me with a smile and it was a pleasure to work with my first boss, Angela.
Thanks GH xx
I am even a ‘postage stamp size’ on the front cover!
