If you are looking for a calming shopping experience, take a breather and enter the new Cos store in Guildford’s High Street, previously home to H&M. Easy on the eye the elegant clothes have minimal details and clean silhouettes. Perfect core items for your wardrobe.

A high percentage of the store is made up of shades of black, greys and neutrals with hits of high powered colours to break up the classics. The bold yellow draws you close, but most will understand the easier colour options and soft pastels in pale green and pink tints.

With womenswear on the ground floor, mens and and children on the first, all housed in modern open surroundings, the floors look nearly uni sex. With crazy all around it was a sigh of relief to walk where details are discreet, clothing designed without unnecessary additions. Although there are experimental ideas for the adventurous, with twisted seams and the occasional quirky cut, the finish feels designer at high street prices.

The trouser selection should fill most of our needs from very slim to super wide. I would advise a search through the website before you visit to find your shapes, and then ask where to find them in store as a few shoppers are a little intimidated by the sparse layout.

You won’t love it all, but be open to new inspiration.
