Woodie & Morris Live On
April 17, 2016Spring Wardrobe Shuffle
May 4, 2016There are a few trends this summer that I definitely won’t be attempting, slip dresses (too minimal) and flat mules (too uncomfortable) but the off-shoulder, baring that nice bit of flattering skin has lots of potential. For day, evening and holidays it just feels right. Designer labels are showing them in abundance like these two from Net-A-Porter.
On the high street, my favourite look is the girlie frill worn with tomboy jeans. At my recent Jeans Workshop I found a sweet top from an unexpected source – Miss Selfridge. In a deckchair stripe and cotton feel fabric a few of you tried it with boyfriend jeans and loved it. A fun summer addition for £25. Avoid tops that have are too long and full, as its better to show a bit of waist definition or choose the slimmer silhouette to balance the wider top.
Or the simple pure cotton option from Warehouse, £32.
Monsoon’s lacy layer, £59, perfect with grunge jeans for day or sleeker limbs for evening.
The one obvious issue here is bra straps – do we show or hide them? A strapless bra is an option as these tops are not so fitted that the bra edges will show, or go for coloured contrast – pink, green just make a statement of it – never go down the see through plastic option. It never works.
The cut out shoulder is another look on the same theme and solves the bra debate, by Baukjen, £59
It’s one body area that doesn’t need too much preparation, just a little layer of moisturiser – done.
